From a visit to San Diego a few years ago, the replica of the schooner AMERICA sails past the US Navy aircraft carrier RONALD REAGAN (CVN-76) on a particularly typical southern California day. The beautiful sail boat has a bit of a bone in her teeth as she has 3 of her main sails up, (from the left) the mainsail, the foresail and the jumbo with the jib topsail up forward. That’s a lot of canvas!
The carrier, meanwhile, is 90,000+ tons of gray steel and nuclear power.
